Definition

What Is a CNO Email List?

CNO stands for Chief Nursing Officer: the most senior nursing leader in a healthcare organization. This is a file of business contact records for those leaders, and for the nursing leadership tier beneath them, paired with the organizations they work in.

What you receive

A spreadsheet where each row is a named nursing leader and the organization they lead in: work email, phone, job title, organization name and type, and the address down to ZIP code. It is built to the criteria you give us rather than sold as a fixed file.

Every record describes someone in their professional role at a business address. Nothing here relates to patients, and nothing is clinical data.

The CNO owns the workforce, not a product category

Most healthcare executives are defined by a budget line: technology, supply chain, finance. The Chief Nursing Officer is defined by the largest group of staff in the building, and by the standard of care those staff deliver.

That is a useful filter for your own campaign. Offers about staffing, scheduling, clinical workflow, bedside practice, education and retention land here naturally. Offers about billing systems or building services do not, however senior the contact is. The wider healthcare executives database is the right place to start for those.

Who you can reach

Exact CNOs, or Nursing Leadership More Broadly

This is the first decision to make, and it changes the size of your audience more than anything else. The CNO title exists at some organizations and not others; the responsibility exists at all of them.

  • Tier one

    Chief Nursing Officers

The exact audience. The senior-most nursing executive, typically found where the organization is large enough to carry a formal C-suite: hospitals, health systems and academic medical centers.

    • Chief Nursing Officer
    • CNO

Narrowest selection, and the one to ask for when your offer is aimed at organization-wide nursing strategy.

  • Tier two

    Nursing directors and managers

The leadership layer that carries the same responsibility under a different title, and the people a CNO usually delegates evaluation to in any case.

    • Nursing director
    • Nurse manager
    • Charge nurse

Widens the audience considerably, and often the better fit for product-level or unit-level offers.

  • Tier two, other settings

Directors of Nursing in long-term care

In nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities, the Director of Nursing is the equivalent role. A selection built on the CNO title alone will not find them.

    • Director of Nursing
    • Assistant Director of Nursing

Ask for this explicitly if long-term care is part of your market.

Related nursing roles, where your campaign needs them

Clinical nurse specialists, Nurse educators, Nurse practitioners can be added to the same file where they are relevant: an education provider, for instance, usually wants nurse educators alongside the leadership tier. These sit outside nursing leadership proper, so they are added on request rather than included by default, and the count reports them separately so you can see what each group contributes.

What you receive

What Information Can You Get?

Available fields may include the following. Each row pairs the nursing leader with the organization they work in, which is what lets you qualify the account and address the person in the same step.

Professional details

The nursing leader

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Full name
  • Job title
  • Nursing leadership function
  • Business email address
  • Phone number
  • Direct phone, where held
Organization details

Where they lead

  • Organization or facility name
  • Facility or organization type
  • Website
  • Business address
  • City
  • State
  • ZIP code
  • Country
  • Parent organization, where held
  • Number of locations, where held

Read the job title column before you write the campaign

On this audience the title field is the one worth checking in the sample, because it is where the tier distinction becomes visible: a selection spanning hospitals and long-term care will return Chief Nursing Officers alongside Directors of Nursing, and an opening line that assumes one will read oddly to the other. Not every record carries every field. Name what your campaign depends on and the count reports how many records hold it.

By organization type

Target CNOs by Healthcare Organization

Nursing leadership looks different in each setting, and the job title changes with it. Choose the organizations you sell into and the selection follows the structure inside them.

  • Hospitals and health systems

Where the CNO title is most consistently used, often with nursing directors beneath it and a system-level nursing executive above.

    View the facility data
  • Nursing homes and skilled nursing

The Director of Nursing is the equivalent role here, and a CNO-only selection will not return them.

    View the facility data
  • Assisted living facilities

Nursing leadership at community level, though clinical staffing decisions frequently sit with a regional or corporate layer.

    View the facility data
  • Clinics and specialty practices

Smaller structures where nursing leadership may be a nurse manager rather than a named executive, or part of the practice manager's role.

    View the facility data
  • Rehabilitation facilities

Post-acute settings with their own nursing leadership. Available as a targeting criterion; there is no dedicated facility page for it yet.

  • Home health organizations

Nursing leadership managing a distributed workforce rather than a building, which changes what staffing and scheduling offers need to address.

The organizations themselves are covered by the healthcare facilities database, and the clinical staff beneath this leadership tier by the nurses email list. Any of the three can be delivered on one file.

Customization

Customize Your CNO Database

Every criterion below changes the count, and the point of setting them is to stop paying for contacts your campaign was never going to use.

  • Job title: the exact CNO, or the tier

The single most important choice on this audience. Asking only for the Chief Nursing Officer title returns the narrowest, most senior selection; adding nursing directors, nurse managers and directors of nursing widens it into settings where the CNO title is not used at all.

  • Organization type, because the structure differs

A hospital CNO leads through a layer of directors. A skilled nursing facility's director of nursing manages the floor directly. The same pitch does not fit both, so choosing the setting first is what makes the rest of the targeting useful.

  • Named organizations: account-based work

Where you are already working a list of health systems or operators, the selection can be built around those organizations rather than a geography, with the count showing which of your accounts carry a nursing leadership contact.

Geographic targeting

A supplier who can only service Texas has no use for nursing leadership contacts in forty-nine other states. Geography is usually the first cut worth making, and it can be as broad or as precise as your operation actually is.

  • Nationwide

The full United States selection, for campaigns without a territory constraint.

  • State

One state or a list of them: the usual shape when licensing, contracts or coverage are state-bound.

  • City and metro

Metro-level targeting, for a team that works cities rather than whole states.

  • ZIP code

Selected ZIP codes, when a real sales territory does not follow administrative borders.

Criteria combine into one request: Chief Nursing Officers, at hospitals and health systems, across four named states, is a single selection. Send the combination and the count comes back for that exact audience, so you can widen the title tier or the geography before committing to anything.

What Solutions Can You Market to Chief Nursing Officers?

A CNO is relevant when what you offer touches the nursing workforce, the way it is staffed, or the work it does at the bedside. Billing systems and building services belong with other executives.

How it is used

How Businesses Use CNO Contact Data

The value is not the file. It is not sending the same campaign to eight executives when only one of them has any reason to read it.

  • B2B sales outreach

Open a conversation with the person whose remit covers nursing staff, practice or workload, not whoever the switchboard routes you to.

  • Email marketing

Run a campaign written for nursing leadership specifically, rather than one executive message sent to every title in the building.

  • Account-based marketing

Add the nursing leadership contact to the accounts you are already working, alongside the operational and financial contacts.

  • Recruitment

Approach senior nursing professionals about leadership roles, where the outreach is appropriate to the audience.

  • Events and webinars

Fill a nursing leadership session, a certification briefing or a workforce roundtable with the right seniority.

  • Market research

Recruit nursing executives for interviews and surveys on staffing, technology adoption or care models.

  • Partnership development

Start conversations about clinical partnerships, education pipelines or workforce programmes.

  • Direct mail

Use the business address for physical outreach where the piece justifies it and the inbox is saturated.

Worth being straight about: a Chief Nursing Officer influences a great deal and personally signs for comparatively little. Most meaningful purchases in this area also involve procurement, finance or a committee. Treat nursing leadership as the people who decide whether something is worth having, not as the people who release the money for it.

Data quality

How CNO Contact Information Is Verified

Nursing leadership turns over quickly

Promotions, interim appointments and reorganisations move this tier faster than most. Selections are built against current data rather than pulled from a stored extract.

Business records only

Every contact is a professional at a business address, in their working role. No personal addresses, and nothing relating to patients.

Measured where it matters

Accuracy is measured at the point of delivery and deliverability across delivered files, so the figures describe what you receive.

Reported against your criteria

The count covers the selection you asked for, including how many organizations in it carry a contact at the title tier you chose.

Data last put through a full verification pass in September 2026. Counts reflect the current HCPContacts data universe and may change as records are added, updated, or removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions the sections above do not already answer.

Enough to matter, and it depends entirely on which settings you sell into. The title is used fairly consistently in hospitals and health systems. In skilled nursing, assisted living and smaller clinics the same responsibility is usually titled Director of Nursing or nurse manager, and a CNO-only selection will not return any of them. Ask for the count both ways before deciding. It is the quickest way to see the size of the gap for your own market.

Seniority. The nurses list is built around practising clinical staff: registered nurses, nurse practitioners and specialists. That is the right audience for products nurses use or credentials they earn. This selection is the leadership tier above them, bought when the decision is organizational rather than individual. Some campaigns want both, on one file, with the title column separating them.

Both exist and they are different buyers. Large health systems often carry a nursing executive above individual hospitals as well as a CNO at each site. Tell us which layer your offer needs, or ask for both and use the organization and parent organization columns to tell them apart. Where a parent organization is held on the record, it is supplied.

Not reliably, and we would not claim it does. Nursing leadership typically decides whether something is clinically worth having, while procurement or finance handles the commercial side, and the split varies by organization. The practical consequence is that a first message aimed at a CNO should argue the case for the thing rather than ask for a purchase order.

The job title and organization type columns, read together. That pairing is where you will see whether your selection has returned the tier you expected across every setting in it, and it is usually what tells you to tighten the titles or widen the geography before ordering. It is worth doing this before writing the campaign, not after.

Yes, and asking for the count broken out by state is the usual way to plan it. You can then order region by region as each launch approaches, which keeps the data close to current at the point you actually send rather than buying everything months ahead.
