MEDITECH Customers List

MEDITECH is a Massachusetts healthcare software company that has built electronic health records since 1969. Its current platform, MEDITECH Expanse, is a web-based EHR used across inpatient, emergency, surgical and clinic care, with a long presence in community and critical access hospitals.

Many of those hospitals are also moving from earlier MEDITECH platforms to Expanse. Knowing which companies use MEDITECH helps healthcare IT vendors, consultants, integration providers and medical suppliers find accounts where their products or services may be relevant.

HCPContacts helps you identify companies using MEDITECH and connect with their IT, clinical informatics, operations, procurement and executive decision-makers.

The company

What Is MEDITECH?

MEDITECH, formally Medical Information Technology, Inc., is a privately held company that makes electronic health record software. It is one of the longest-established EHR vendors in the United States, and federal data show it was the leading EHR developer among U.S. non-federal acute care hospitals in 2010.

Its EHR is the system clinicians use to document care, order tests and medications, and review results, with billing and patient records on the same platform. MEDITECH lists community and critical access hospitals first among the organizations it serves, alongside larger health systems, clinics, behavioral health and long-term care providers.

Today MEDITECH sells one platform, Expanse, while supporting hospitals that still run its earlier systems.

The platform

What Is MEDITECH Expanse?

MEDITECH Expanse is MEDITECH's current EHR, announced in 2018 as a web-based platform and now described by MEDITECH as cloud-native. One Expanse record follows a patient from the emergency department through surgery, an inpatient stay and follow-up visits in the hospital's clinics.

Hospitals can run Expanse themselves or subscribe to it through MEDITECH as a Service, which MEDITECH hosts on Google Cloud. Care settings with their own Expanse modules include:

  • Inpatient acute care
  • Emergency department
  • Surgical services
  • Oncology
  • Ambulatory clinics
  • Home health and hospice
  • Behavioral health
  • Post-acute and long-term care

Not every MEDITECH customer is on Expanse. Some hospitals still run the earlier MAGIC or Client/Server platforms, and MEDITECH publishes a migration path from both. For vendors, the difference matters: a hospital mid-migration has different priorities, projects and budgets from one that has been live on Expanse for years.

What Is a MEDITECH Customers List?

A MEDITECH customers list connects four things: the MEDITECH technology, the company or healthcare provider running it, the decision-makers inside that provider, and business contact data for those people. That is what turns a list of hospital names into a list you can act on.

Companies Using MEDITECH

MEDITECH's base leans toward community and rural hospitals more than Epic's or Oracle Health's, while also including some very large systems. Each type below is backed by a named example or by MEDITECH's own figures.

  • Community hospitalsIndependent hospitals serving one town or county, such as Schneck Medical Center and Wooster Community Hospital.
  • Rural and critical access hospitalsMEDITECH reports more than 250 rural sites on Expanse, with 15 rural hospitals choosing it in 2025.
  • Regional health systemsMulti-site systems such as Willis Knighton Health, which runs Expanse across 132 clinics.
  • Large multi-hospital systemsHCA Healthcare is moving its hospitals to Expanse in waves, with 72 live by August 2026.
  • Behavioral health hospitalsPsychiatric hospitals such as Silver Hill Hospital, which uses Expanse.
  • Hospital-affiliated clinicsAmbulatory practices that share a record with their hospital through Expanse Ambulatory.

Market context

MEDITECH's Presence in U.S. Healthcare

Four figures from three kinds of source: the federal government, independent research and MEDITECH itself. Each measures something different.

MEDITECH EHR Market Share

KLAS Research's US Acute Care EHR Market Share 2026 report, covering 2025 contracts, places MEDITECH third among acute care EHR vendors, with 14.7% of U.S. acute care hospitals and 12.5% of beds. A lower share of beds than of hospitals means MEDITECH hospitals are, on average, smaller than the market as a whole.

The government's own series tells a longer story. In 2010 MEDITECH was the leading EHR developer among non-federal acute care hospitals, at 23%; by 2024 its share was 15.6%. Meanwhile its existing customers increasingly stay: KLAS reports that 84% of legacy MEDITECH customers deciding in 2025 chose Expanse.

Products

MEDITECH Products and Capabilities

Tools built around Expanse, as MEDITECH names them in September 2026. Hospitals adopt different combinations.

For integration vendors, MEDITECH offers FHIR APIs and a developer test environment through MEDITECH Greenfield Workspace (opens in a new tab). Whether a specific product connects to MEDITECH depends on that product; running MEDITECH does not mean any given integration is in place.

Decision-makers

Decision-Makers at Companies Using MEDITECH

In a large system, MEDITECH decisions pass through several teams. In a 25-bed critical access hospital, the CIO, the IT director and the person who signs the contract may be one or two people. The groups below cover both.

  • Healthcare IT

Owns the MEDITECH system, its hosting and its interfaces. In smaller hospitals this can be a team of a few people led by one director.

    • Chief Information Officer
    • Chief Technology Officer
    • VP Information Technology
    • IT Director
    • EHR Director
    • Applications Director
    • Clinical Systems Director
  • Clinical informatics

Leads build decisions, clinician training and optimization, especially during a move to Expanse.

    • Chief Medical Information Officer
    • Chief Nursing Informatics Officer
    • VP Clinical Informatics
    • Director of Clinical Informatics
  • Operations

Runs the hospital and its departments, and often signs off on technology directly at smaller facilities.

    • Chief Operating Officer
    • Hospital Administrator
    • VP Operations
    • Operations Director
  • Procurement

Manages vendor contracts, renewals and purchasing across IT and clinical supplies.

    • Procurement Director
    • Purchasing Director
    • Strategic Sourcing Director
    • Supply Chain Director
  • Finance and revenue cycle

Responsible for billing, claims and patient accounts, and for the budget behind system changes.

    • Chief Financial Officer
    • VP Revenue Cycle
    • Revenue Cycle Director

Not every provider has every title. For IT leaders across all hospitals, see the hospital CIO email list; for purchasing, the hospital procurement contacts.

Use cases

How Businesses Can Use a MEDITECH Customers List

What changes when you know a hospital runs MEDITECH. Using MEDITECH does not make a provider a buyer, and results depend on your offer.

  • Account-based marketingSeparate hospitals already on Expanse from those still on MAGIC or Client/Server, and write to each group differently.
  • Healthcare IT salesAt smaller MEDITECH hospitals the CIO or IT director may approve add-on tools directly, so the list points you at the decision-maker.
  • Integration servicesMEDITECH offers FHIR APIs through Greenfield Workspace. Knowing the hospital runs Expanse tells you which integration conversation to have.
  • Data migration and archivingMoves from legacy MEDITECH platforms to Expanse, and moves away from MEDITECH, both leave historical data to convert or archive.
  • CybersecurityHospitals on MEDITECH as a Service run Expanse in MEDITECH's Google Cloud environment; others host their own. The security conversation differs.
  • Healthcare consultingExpanse implementations and optimization can involve outside project, training and staffing support. No current project is assumed.
  • Data and analyticsReach the informatics and IT leaders who report on data coming out of the MEDITECH record.
  • Revenue cycle solutionsBilling and claims run through the EHR, so revenue cycle tools are evaluated against the MEDITECH environment already in place.
  • Medical technology and suppliersCommunity and rural hospitals on MEDITECH form a distinct market. Use the technology context to segment regional hospital accounts.
